El nombre de la aventurina procede de la palabra italiana ventura, que significa azar. Este nombre lo debe a que fue descubierta por casualidad, en el siglo XVIII.

Esta piedra preciosa tiene características inclusiones, que son las que le dan ese color verdoso con reflejos brillantes. De hecho, esta característica se denomina también efecto aventurinado. Estas inclusiones son pequeñas micas amarillas con reflejos de color dorado que, al estar orientados en mil direcciones diferentes, crean un brillo muy especial y vistoso.  Sin embargo, en algunos casos, el brillo no está producido por la mica, sino por cristales de cuarzo. Éstos son los ejemplares más valorados. Antiguamente, la aventurina se obtenía yacimientos a orillas del Mar Blanco. En la actualidad, se obtiene principalmente en la zona de Karnataka, India. Así mismo, existen algunos yacimientos en Estados Unidos, Sudáfrica, Alemania y Austria. La aventurina verde se utiliza principalmente para joyería, si bien no podemos olvidar que los abalorios hechos con esta piedra pueden ser utilizados en gemoterapia y también con fines mágicos y para atraer la buena suerte.

Those are the most valued issues. Long ago, aventurine was taken from deposits in the White Sea. Nowadays, aveturine is mainly taken from Karnataka, India. Besides, some smaller deposits are found in teh United States, South Africa, Germany and Austria. Green aventurine is mainly used for jewelry, but we can not forgent that accesories made with this stone can be used for gem therapy and with magic purposes or to attract good luck.
